Have you ever wondered why you cannot easily show your favorite photos and videos you already have on your smartphone to a bunch of people at the same time? You can transmit is via Bluetooth, Email, social networking sites, etc., but how about showing them on a huge telli?
Now you can: The Nokia N900 can be direclty plugged into the TV set for a video demo or photo slide show to the whole family - out of the box!
A Swedish guy in New York City has run a speedtest on his desktop computer with cable connnection as well as the same speedtest on T-Mobile's cellular network using his Nokia N900.
There is nothing special about it, apart from the fact that I am not really surprised of T-Mobile's speed provided by the network. The N900 is a damn fast machine using HSDPA up to 10 Mbps (currently the fastest smartphone on the planet), but once more, we impressively see, that the best smartphone makes no sense when the carrier behind is not able to pump data through its network.
The following video demonstration shows the scheduler as well as switching between a call and the scheduler on a N900 (Maemo5).
There is a new webOS update 1.2 coming soom to your Palm Pre and there is one important feature, which makes me headache: Remote removal of installed applications
This is what Apple has introcuded on the iPhones months ago and that's why people hate them so much. Everything goes down to total device control by the manufacturer and the user is reduced to a payer of some kind of electronic cicuitry with no rights on the device he has paid so much for!
From one moment to another the smartphone could be very expensive garbage. Nobody ever said, that "they" (Apple, Palm, etc) will remotely control and/or lock your device and delete applications on it, but it is close to that idea and thus, people double-check whether they really want to invest into an Apple iPhone or Palm Pre or go with an open platform, such as Nokia maemo for the internet tablet range N800, N810 and N900.
What Palm can currently do:
(A) Force the user to install updates - at least after one week
(B) Delete installed applications remotely
What Palm currently is doing:
(C) Provide firmware updates remotely
(D) Transmit your GPS location to a central Palm server for advertising purposes
I, for one, do not like this development...

As we indicated lastly Nokia is serious about shifting their complete smartphone range under the hood of Maemo5.
In their labs, they are working on new Maemo releases for their smartphone, which feature a lot more that what we know by today. It looks very interesting and promising. Enjoy the video demo...
As I have written here, the Nokia N900 Internet Tablet is a bit smaller than it's predecessor N810.
Slashgear.com has done a size comparison of the current N810 to the upcoming N900.
As most of you are aware of, the browser of Nokia Internet Tablets for years (!) is able to handle flash animated webpages natively and without any hassle.
The guys over at slashgear.com have posted a video demonstration of the N900's web abilities., which show a smooth scrolling web browser and desktop interface of the new maemo5 device.
At the Nokia World 2009 in Stuttgart, Nokia officially presented the Nokia Internet Tablet N900.
Some Videos are shown below.
Thanks to the wonderful people yesterday at our monthly Palm User Group Meeting at Düsseldorf, we had a gorgeous time together, a lot of fun and the newest devices on the planet to put out hands on: The Nokia N900 and successor of the N810.
Apart from anything heard so far, the N900 is incredibly small, physically smaller than the N810 but a bit bigger as the actual N810 screen size. I like the phylosophy behind to have an internet enabled device using HSDPA all the time to stay connected, although I must say, it's feel and haptics is not as good as of the N810!
I love the N810 because of its gorgeous 4" screen, a separate 5 way navigator and a larger keyboard, which clearly gives more space to find the keys properly. The N900's keyboard is a bit too tiny for my impressions - surely something one could live with, because it's a question of training.
On the contrary, Maemo5 makes a good, fast and stable impression, espicially scrolling through the virtual desktops, picking some music, surfing the net, etc.
The specification read as follows:
- Maemo 5
- Dimensions: 59.7mm x 111mm x 18.2mm
- Weight: 180g
- 3.5-inch 800×480 (WVGA) touchscreen
- OMAP3430 500/600 Mhz processor
- 5.0 MP Carl Zeiss camera with dual-LED flash, auto-focus and sliding cover
- 1GB total virtual runtime memory
- Wi-Fi, HSPA, GPS, accelerometer
There
are clear evolution steps: The first units came with WLAN & BT, the
second generation featured also GPS, the third WiMAX and with the N900,
Nokia have put 3G into the NIT.
