Toshiba got CES off to a fast fast, wireless, start with the introduction of the Regza Link. REGZA LINK (HDMI-CEC) currently achieves simplified operation of multiple digital products connected by HDMI cables. But the next generation version does it all wirelessly. Toshiba will demonstrate REGZA LINK (HDMI-CEC) based on WirelessHD technology, which realizes wireless transmission of uncompressed HD video and audio data at speeds allowing devices to be positioned anywhere in a room. Toshiba will also spotlight high speed data transfers among digital products based on TransferJet technology, a close proximity wireless technology standardized by the TransferJet Consortium. The concept model for future PC, mobile and digital products offers simple operation, safe connection and fast, reliable data transfers.
Toshiba announced plans to introduce an additional series of Toshiba TV’s later in 2009 that will incorporate the new TV Widgets, enabled by the Widget Channel framework, which allows consumers direct and easy access to sources of personalized Internet content via their remote control. This is very much like widgets that are widely used on computers, it only makes sense for them to move to TVs.
When launched content will include local weather, top news stories, sports scores, stock quotes, pictures, videos and more. In addition, Toshiba plans to add DLNA and Microsoft’s Extender for Windows Media Center capabilities to allow remote control of a PC so you can access all of the multi-media content stored on your PC’s hard drive.

Symwave and Seagate, two PC connectivity manufacturers have joined forces in order to create the new Symwave USB 3.0 controller device. This device will work at speeds that no one has seen before and the manufacturers plan to demonstrate its abilities at this January’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The USB 3.0 solution is rumored to run at speeds as much as 10 times faster than current models. This is the reason that it is also referred to as the Superspeed USB. This device will show improvements in the consumer’s ability to backup data, streaming audio and video as well as storage solutions. Data has shown that the new USB will also provide less overall power consumption. Consumers have wondered whether their devices will work with the new USB 3.0 solutions. Symwave has stated that the device is backwards compatible with over 10 billion devices. The manufacturers have only recently finished completion of the prototype. Symwave released in a statement that its first USB 3.0 physical layer device was introduced only seven weeks ago.
Samsung, the South Korean consumer electronics giant, claims they have released the slimmest LCD television the world has ever seen. It’s even thinner than their “Bordeaux 850” that is currently the thinnest on the market. Measuring a mere 6.5 millimeters (0.26 inch) thick, this TV is what sci-fi has said all along would eventually come around. This new television is a seventh of the thickness of the slimmest television currently on the market (also made by Samsung). Using an LED (light emitting diode) backlight system, this LCD TV is sure to please the gadget lover who just has to have the coolest thing out there. The TV is being previewed at the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2009) in Las Vegas, Nevada. Some speculate that the TV tuner is not present in the television, but the truth should come out when Samsung unveils their new prize. And the future of television will push forward.
Nokia’s just pulled the plug on the device, according to MobileBurn,
citing "slow WiMAX roll out in the USA as well as an issue with current
WiMAX switches in use not offering optimal performance" as the
precipitators for the internet tablet’s demise. While it’s true
that WiMAX adoption has been slow, it may also be possible that nobody
bought the N810 WiMAX Edition with its $450+ MSRP. Don’t get me wrong,
I like Nokia’s internet tablets but for that kind of money, you could
buy at least 100 hot dogs and eat like a king. A king!
The venerable Secure Digital memory card is getting a refresh at CES this year. The new SDXC — Secure Digital Extended Copy — will hold up to 2 terabytes of data, and promises transfer speeds of up to 300MB/sec. That’s 4,000 images in super-uncompressed RAW format, or 17,000 finely compressed JPEGs.The big score here is for digital camcorders. Lots of capacity means lots of time to record HD video. The faster transfer speeds of SDXC should make video recording, and editing, a much better prospect for the consumer market. Or you could just buy a couple of these and use them as your backup solution. Copy all your data on one, mail it to a friend or relative in another city, and you have your off-site backup.
Call it crazy, but the Europeans are as they are - always a bit special. In fact, they are crazy, regardless whether they are British, French, Spainish, Italien or German.
Within just two weeks, members of Germany's largest online palm community collected a few thousand Euros in order to finance a new server of European's largest Palm Online Community Nexave - founded by a friend of mine.
By the way: This particular friend,Torsten, is the one behind the scenes, who organises the annual Palm User Meeting (PUM) at Cebit - the globally largest event of PDA freaks, geeks, manufacturers, SW developers, PDA newbies and grannies, Palm executives, etc. with quite two hundred participants every year at Cebit fair.
Thanks to the good relationship between the European Palm Community and Palm Europe, both sides have agreed to send one palm expert from (good old) Europe over to the USA in order to meet "Ed and the Gang", have a cup of coffee and see what's new with Palm. They say, they will have groundbreaking, earthshaking and mindblowing devices ready in pipeline for 2009 together with Palm's new smartphone operating system called Nova and what's this all about, they will tell at a parallel press event to CES in January 2009. More details has the BusinessWeek.
There is currently an election on whom to send to CES and there are a few guys left:
(A) Torsten, the streamlined young, dynamic entrepreneur and founder of Nexave
(B) THL, the SIM expert for global roaming issues in digital cellular
(C) PUGcast team member Marcus, the fearless reporter who always will be send to those events
All are ready to go, but only one can win. As crazy as we Europeans are, we will decide on whom to send by this week. Tickets will be paid by another collection through the community. This underlines the strong coherence and power of the European Palm Commuity. I, for one, am really overwhelmed by the engagement of a few thousand people.
